Roof Area
This is the rectangular roof surface you seek to protect with SnoBlox-SnoJax Snow Guards. Calculate one roof area at a time. Any variety of change in a roof section, indicates two seperate roof areas and values to enter into the SpacingTool. For example, if the pitch or run changes, enter the eave length for both sections seperately. If you are doing both sides of the same building, select "Two Roof Areas."

Roof Pitch
This is the measure of roof steepness. The Roof Pitch is calculated using any builders level placed downhill anywhere on the roof. Measure out 12 inches on a horizontal level plane. Measure up from the roof surface to the 12 inch mark on the level. This number is then placed over 12 (i.e. 4/12 ").

Valley Width
The Valley Width is measured in the flat area between any two side by side major ribs or seams.

Flat Area Width
The Flat Area Width is measured in the smallest flat width on the panel, between any two side by side minor ribs or ridges or seams. This value will determine which snow guard model will work best.

Snow Load
Visit GroundSnowbyZip.com for a quick estimate, but please call your local zoning office or county building inspector to obtain this value. This is an important step and is required in the Spacing Tool. Your local building supply store or lumber yard may also know the local snow load values.

Total Roof Valleys
The Total Roof Valleys is the total number of flat valley areas on the entire project. This is calculated for you, based on total lineal feet in each eave length.

Eave Length
The eave length measured along the downhill or gutter edge of the roof.

Run
The Run or "Rake" is the distance from ridge to eave, measured from the top of the roof surface down to the edge of the roof, per roof area. The run is also called the rafter length, however this distance must also include any overhang. If two roof areas are seperated by a ridge, drop, gap or change in pitch, measure the run seperately per roof area.

Common Screw-Down panels.

"R" Panel
The "R" or "PBR" is a common panel that is typically 36" wide with 9" or 12" major rib centers and a 1-3/8", 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" rib height. Measure flat area between any minor ribs.

"U" Panel
The "U" Panel is a common panel that is typically 36" wide with 6" rib centers and a 3/4" rib height.

Industrial Rib
The Industrial Rib or "7.2 Rib" is typically 36" wide with 7.2" rib centers and a 1-1/2" rib height.

Common Standing Seam or Floating panels.

Smooth Panel Standing Seam
The Smooth Panel Vertical Standing Seam panel is typically 12" to 18" wide with a 1-1/2", 1-7/8", 2" or 3" rib height. These panels have no minor ribs or ridges. Measure flat area between seams on center. These panels require adhesive snow guard attachement.

Ribbed Valley Standing Seam
The Trapezoidal panel is typically 24" wide, with ridges or ribs in the valley. These panels have ribs or ridges in the valley. Measure flat area width between major ribs and minor ribs on center. These panels require adhesive snow guard attachement.

Insulated Panels: Flat profiled metal roofing. Adhesive mount only.

Metal Shingle or Flat Profile Metal Roofing
Insulated Panel, Metal Shingle and Flat Profile Metal Roofing with slight or no extrusions. If there are uniform ridges or ribs, please select a panel from above. These panels require adhesive snow guard attachement.

Rubber Roofing: Flat profiled rubber roofing. Mechanical mount only.

Rubber or Membrane Roofing
Sprayed or rolled, rubber or membrane roofing. These panels require mechanical snow guard attachement.
